Dear Innumerable Stars Author,

Hello! Thank you so much in advance for your work--this is my first fic exchange in a LONG time, and I am super excited! I offered some prompts in my signup, and will probably not be more detailed than that in this letter, but I hope it hits the sweet spot of giving you some ideas but not being too specific/giving you a lot of artistic leeway. I'm pasting the prompts below, as well as expanding a bit on my likes and DNWs because I remembered some that I forgot (like i said, it's been a long time). As follows:

Likes )
DNWs )Requests )

Thank you so much again!!! I can't wait to see what you come up with :D

Hey friends! I just added a ton of new people thanks to Tumblr's fuckery lollll. Can you do me a favor? If you're a recent add and your DW username is different from your Tumblr one can you comment and lemme know who you are/where I know you from? Please and thank you!

Title: The Queen’s Blade

Summary: In an autumn where the Dúnedain face untold losses, a young blacksmith crafts her first blade.

Rating: Teen

Characters/Pairings: Isilmë, Huor, Dirhael, Nethril

Warnings: None

Author's Notes: This fic is for [livejournal.com profile] pandemonium_213, who requested a fic about Isilme’s first project as an apprentice. Many, many thanks to my betas, Indy and Salvage (especially Salvage, who isn't even in the fandom), and to Elleth for reading bits of this while it was still in workshop stages.

Apparently this fic is too long to post in one LJ entry!!!! (it's only 7,000 words, what the heck). In lieu of reading it here, you can find it at the AO3 here, and at MPTT here. Please check it out if you so desire--I'm particularly proud of this one and it's all I have to show for my summer, fandom-wise :P.

Title: Made by Maid
Summary: Aragorn and Isilmë discuss the reforging of Narsil.
Rating: General
Characters/Pairings: Aragorn/Arwen, Nethril/Isilmë
Warnings: None

Author's Notes:This fic takes place the morning after the events of my fic, To the Day's Rising, though it's not necessary to have read that first. This fic also crosses over slightly with the Pandë!verse, and i am hoping at least a couple more Pandë!verse/Suz!verse intersections will follow this :). Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pandemonium_213 for letting me borrow a certain lady smith, and to [livejournal.com profile] ladyelleth and [livejournal.com profile] zopyrus for the beta.

Dear Yuletide Writer,

First of all, thank you so much in advance!! I am sure I am going to love whatever you write. I am fairly easy to please, and am a firm believer in “optional details are optional,” so if none of my prompts strike your fancy, please feel free to take liberties! That being said, prompts below:

Saga: Klara is my absolute favorite character of the comic, and I would absolutely love to see more of her backstory. What did she do before she met Barr? What was their early life together like? How was it raising Marko? Any of these would be great! Alternatively, I will never say no to Lying Cat & The Will adventures.

Chronicles of Prydain: I would adore some Coll backstory here, and/or stories of him and Dallben having low-grade adventures around Caer Dallben. And/or Coll slowly figuring out how the heck to be a father figure to baby Taran.

Thrawn Trilogy: I specifically only requested crew members of the Wild Karrde, mainly because I am in love with everyone on that ship and long to see more shenanigans and adventures starring everyone.

Old Kingdom: I would LOVE to see more of Lirael and Sabriel interacting following the events of Abhorsen—you never get to see them interacting as sisters following the big reveal, and I imagine that would be a lot for them to both have to navigate.

Thanks again, and happy Writing!

<3 Suzelle

 Dear Writer,

First and foremost, thanks in advance for whatever you come up with! I'm really excited to write and receive fic for this exchange. Generally speaking, my preferences range wide--I will read pretty much anything that's pointed in my general direction. So, if the specific prompt ideas I have below don't speak to you and/or you have other ideas that you'd rather write, knock yourself out :). But for reference, my prompt ideas are below:

Fandoms: Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, The Hobbit )

Title: Wandering Light
Summary: Elrond and Elros return to Sirion, take up sailing lessons with Círdan in Balar, and are forced to confront aspects of their past they’d both rather avoid.
Author's Note: With great thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cairistiona7 and [livejournal.com profile] zopyrus for the beta.

(Crossposted to the Archive here and SWG here.)
(Also posting this with slightly more fanfare than usual because it's the Silmarillion fic I've ever actually published! *jazz hands*)

Title: "It's Only a Paper, Moon"
Summary: Erestor abandons his chief assistant to night duty in Rivendell’s libraries. Merineth and Gilraen discuss history and explore the Noldorin archives.
Author's Note: This fic is a companion, of sorts, to [livejournal.com profile] zopyrus's story When the Moon Hits Your Eye, and she deserves great thanks for the inspiration, beta, and poaching allowances. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] sigridhr for the beta.

Finally followed in the footsteps of [livejournal.com profile] pandemonium_213 and put together a playlist for my B2MeM compilation story, "Burdens of the Wise." These were the songs I had playing on repeat when I was working on this fic, and I finally put them all in an order that flows well for me. A couple songs have a fair smattering of 21st-century references, so aren't ~strictly~ Tolkienian, but the meaning and sentiment fit so well that I kept them in. So, without further ado, here's the tracklist:

1. "All my Rage," Laura Marling
2. "Little Mercy," Doomtree
3. "The Beekeeper," Dessa
4. "Spirited," Laura Gibson
5. "Bad Blood," Bastille
6. "Lament for Frankie," Solas
7. "Veteran," Doomtree
8. "The Dance," Bear McCreary
9. "Many Moons," Janelle Monae
10. "Comfort," Deb Talan

In the further future I might put this up on 8tracks, but that would require rescuing my music files from my old laptop (which currently won't turn on). In the meantime, I've put together a YouTube playlist, which seems a bit hackneyed but will hopefully still serve the same purpose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zR-AOZfLh7w&list=PLLIB-JWFixVgAnE2Ba68Yui9L59uGkIi9

Title: Turning
Summary: Adanel, Ivorwen, and Nethril discuss Aragorn's future.
Author's Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zopyrus for the beta!
[I am holding off posting this to the Archive because in theory it's a WIP, with one more scene to go...but I wanted to put this up for Legendarium Ladies April before the Textual Ghosts prompt got too old. And yes, I changed the title from what it is on Tumblr. I'm fickle like that]

After a week of fucking terrible writer's block, I reblogged a drabble meme on Tumblr, which requested that people send in a word matched with a character as a prompt. Several people sent me prompts (THANK YOU FRIENDS), and now I've got three Tolkien-drabbles, two of which I'm pretty pleased with (I still can't seem to write Glorfindel to my satisfaction?? It's a continual upward struggle). But I digress. If you're interested, they're behind the cut!

Ivorwen, Fascinated )

Asfaloth, Lovesick (THANKS BUNGO :P) )

Gilraen, Warm )

Hey friends! As a follow-up to the Elvish mixology post I made last night, [livejournal.com profile] tehta had the idea that we ought to make a list of the "typical" drinks for various time periods and regions, from Gondolin to Gondor and back again. I'm certain there are many people who've developed various headcanons about this sort of thing over the years, and it'd be great to hear them so that we can put together a comprehensive list! This way, not only will people have readily-available fic fodder, but we'll all know exactly what to drink when in need of inspiration :D.

SO...discuss!

Two posts in one day, for which I offer a thousand apologies. This one is brought to you by the spontaneous happy hour [livejournal.com profile] zopyrus and I had this evening, which, as it so often does, led to talk of Boozy Elves. Usually this takes the turn of coming up with ridiculous headcanons about our faves in relation to individual tastes/preferences (We postulated that Finrod, for instance, is not a fan of beer the first time he tries it, but all of his mortal friends really love it so he enthusiastically convinces himself that he loves it after all, and probably later supported all the breweries in Nargothrond), but then it got me thinking about Elves at large.

I don't know at what point this notion wedged itself into my head that Elves primarily prefer wine and hard liquors such as miruvor (I suppose because of all the talk of Dorwinion? And I feel like I rarely read fic of Elves drinking ale?), but it did. But the more I've thought about it I realized that's probably an unfair assumption to make, and slightly hypocritical? given my distaste for the strictly-vegetarian meals we see consumed in PJ's Hobbit film. The Elves are a diverse bunch, and general consumption of wine v. ale probably depends on region/crops grown/etc. So now i am off on a tangent thinking about which groups of Elves preferred which. I'm imagining Lorien was probably more wine-country compared to Rivendell, which at the least probably got ale from the surrounding lands of Eriador?

Also, do you think they developed cocktails?? What kinds?? Cocktails are a pretty recent invention, otoh, immortality gives them time to come up with such things...

I am assuming this has been a topic that has been discussed in other corners of the fandom prior to my coming back aboard, but I do not know where to look, and am curious!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about death of the author w/r/t Tolkien, and how much I deeply, if unconsciously, rely on the concept in the creation of my own stories. Because I do strive, still, to create fic that is (mostly) canon-compliant, even if in many respects I’m going in with the specific agenda to subvert and undermine said canon. And I love the freedom to do that within the Tolkien legendarium, because all the texts we have are established in-universe as being secondary sources of a sort. And as any seasoned history major will tell you, secondary sources are imperfect, and fallible, and thus any inherent “rules” of this mythology are open to vast interpretation.

I find this incredibly freeing. I love the notion of wiggling through the cracks Tolkien left and wedging out a more powerful, fulfilling world in which the women of Middle-Earth are named, powerful, and diverse beings. ALL women, ordinary women, not just the queens and the warriors and the ‘man-hearted.’

But then, of course, no matter howe we choose to interpret the texts, it remains an entire legendarium created by a conservative old man, and the texts reflect that in so many cases that you couldn’t list them on two, much less twenty hands. So I’m also reluctant to fully declare death of the author, because it’s too easy. It lets Tolkien off the hook, and that’s not something that I want to do. He was sexist, he was racist, and that needs to be acknowledged when grappling with the grosser aspects of his legendarium. I don’t want to ignore or discount that even as I’m striving to undermine it and wedge myself between the cracks.

So, I suppose, take both of those contradicting thoughts I’m having into account as I roll out this Dúnedain Matriarchy Manifesto. I recognize that this is hardly the first time these conversations have been had, and I owe a great debt to the fabulous people who have discussed these issues in many forums before me. At the same time, I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen it discussed with regard to the women of the Dúnedain specifically, and I do want to bring that front and center here.

Aaand the rest of this goes behind a cut. )

Re-reading The Peoples of Middle-Earth lolol )

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] zopyrus has way better reading comprehension than me and pointed out that there are absolutely two ways to interpret the statement that "Gilraen did not yet desire to be a wife." It never says she's not interested in Arathorn (It also never says she is, but still.), it just says that she sensibly doesn't want to rush into marriage, regardless of her feelings for him. She doesn't turn him down, she goes to her parents for advice, because she feels conflicted. SO none of this in fact does counter my interpretation of the situation/necessarily create a creepiness factor, so I retract some of my capslocked ranting :P

Sooooo I got some mushy Valentine's Day-inspired emotions about Dirhael and Ivorwen and pounded out ~800 words of a thing. Still debating if I'm actually going to post it up on SoA/AO3, but for now I'll leave it here...

Title: Rambling Man
Summary: As Dírhael anticipates Arathorn's proposal to Gilraen, he and Ivorwen reflect upon their own courtship.
Author's Note: With thanks to Zopyrus for the rapidfire gchat-beta and convincing me this was worth putting up <3.
